Background

A proud sister of the House of the North Star, Dudiko is an exemplar of the virtues of her house.
She is able to hold her own in melee however she is more inclined to retreat in a cloud of smoke, leaving her opponents vulnerable and wary of where she will attack from next. Her smoke bombs can be useful for all in her company and she was not too proud to learn their use from those in the House of the North Star.

Tactics

Dudioko Is a great single target remover at range. She is fantastic for taking out annoying models in the back rank, especially as they tend to be low HP and hiding in cover. Dudioko does not care about cover if she has 3 ki, and her special ability means that at long range she can be rolling her three Ranged attack dice against a target number of 5 with 3 dice for wounding. Her arrows are great against armour as well with the only downside being the reloading when you have so few models and activations.
She is the 1st model to have smoke bombs as standard, which makes her really worth her rice cost.

Main points to note for Dudioko:

• Her ranged attack is phenomenal when you get a good hit, but it can also feel like a waste of activations when you don’t.
• With activations a premium for the KKZ this can be annoying but free Smoke Bombs, Dodge, and option for Agile and the Mirage Ki Feat make her an interesting choice for a VIM if you do not intend on shooting every turn.
• She probably works best with Yuto, as she can only lay her Smoke Bomb on her activation and Tactician increases the chances of this happening before she gets attacked but even if she does, Agile allows her to walk away and shoot someone from close range so there isn’t a huge need to keep her in the back field. Additionally, Yuto brings Distraction, enabling short and medium range surprise shots where beneficial.
• Dudioko’s 3 Melee Skill, Dodge and Sidestep Defence means that if she is reloaded she could really put the hurt on someone if they fail to go all in on attack to stop her stepping past her attacker and opening up a surprise shot at close range.

Best gear for Dudioko:

• Grappling Hook, because being able to start turn two behind the enemy on many mission types is likely to get something important assassinated and means they won’t know where to defend from. The Smoke Bomb can also be laid to support another Grappling Hook user and enable use of the Shadow Moves Event, or an additional archer to sit comfortably in cover without having to move (a well placed Hidden Tunnel Entrance could reap this same benefit without the loss of first turn activations if only intending to flank Dudioko).
• Vial of Raijins Breath, but probably only if she is your best choice for VIM, to help get her to where she needs to go.

Where she is most useful:

• The Smoke Bomb that she can drop gives interesting interactions with Shadow Walk models for generating extra speed early when you do not want to use a paid for Smoke Bomb, so she is great on VIM scenarios and prayer missions when you need a fool proof way of getting your fast model up the battle field without broadcasting your intent.
• Her ranged attack creates a nice ‘danger zone’ for opponents models so on Zone Control she can be useful, as well as being able to generate cover temporarily to ensure it is difficult for opponent’s models to engage with yours that would be out in the open otherwise.
• On scenario turning objectives she can be a good way to get models up the battlefield quickly (Smoke Bomb) as well as being good at surviving combat so can easily be ‘in the thick of it’ despite being a ranged attack model. The Mirage Ki Feat further increases her threat because a surprised model at short range is 3 ranged attack dice against a target number of 3. Not a good thing for your opponent’s model that just lost its activation.
• As previously mentioned she can be a VIM or can take long ranged shots against likely targets while removing cover, the option to pass the hit to someone else and any tiny modifiers. Additionally, if it’s a long range shot it will count as a Surprise if she is shooting from cover (which she can create for herself), there is a fairly good chance the VIM will be weakened or very quickly dead.
